Football Goal Posts and How They Evolved With the Game

December 22nd, 2020

Football goal posts pay an important role on the football pitch. To score, the ball has to be kicked between the football goal posts. The game of football has been a sport loved throughout many centuries, but to be able to play hasn’t always been an easy thing.

Before the 1300’s football was a popular sport among the peasants, because it was played on foot. The upper classes preferred sports on horseback, such as Polo, and to them the sport was known as `Mob Football`. Mob football was often played between the youths of two villages, and the one time they always played was Shrove Tuesday. The rules to the game in those days were far different to the modern day game, if there were any at all, and the number of injuries and damage sustained was high.

It was because of this that in the 1300’s, King Edward III ordered a ban on the sport. The people grew too riotous with excitement, and he feared “what evils would arise that God forbade”. It is always disputed, though, that he believed the sport was distracting the men from their archery practice, which was something he needed at the time for war. For the next three hundred years the country saw ban after ban being enforced against the sport. Punishment for playing was a fine a 4 pence or imprisonment.

However, the people kept playing. Their love for the sport kept it alive. It is even reputed that King Henry VIII took part and ordered himself a pair of special football shoes. The authorities struggled to uphold the law when it came to football, and in the end, during the 1600’s, it was Kings James I who lifted the ban. He instructed and persuaded the Christians to play on Sundays after their morning worship.

Later, the sport was encouraged in schools, where the students were of upper and professional class. In order to tame the sport, rules were created, including the off-side rule. In later years when the steam engine came into use, matches were able to be arranged between schools of neighbouring counties, but each school had their own set of rules. In order to keep the game fair, the match with split into two halves. The first half was played to the first set of rules, and the second half was played to the second set.

As the game evolved through out the years, so did the goals. The 1500’s saw the first recorded goals being used, consisting of two bushes strategically planted. These were then referred to as gates, and eventually goal posts were introduced. These, too, have evolved since then, and now you can buy them in different sizes, whether you want the standard size of 24ft in length, or the junior size, 12ft in length, or something smaller for the younger children to have a kick around in the garden.

How To Get Football Autographs

December 8th, 2020

Football autographs can be an ultimate treasure for any serious football lover. Although these are expensive you can still get hold of them by visiting an online sports auction store or simply strolling into a sports curio shop. This article will tell you about how you can get football autographs.

When it comes to autographed memorabilia of any famous star especially if the star hails from the glamorous world of American football then many people would go to extremes to lay their hands on them. Football autographs thus hold a lot of value for sports fanatics the world over, who are willing to go through any odds to add even a single autograph of their favorite footballing icon to their personal collection. Even souvenirs such as an autographed football also add a great value in this regard.

In recent times a new industry of sports memorabilia has sprang up, consisting of items like football autographs, autographed jerseys, helmets, and other such similar souvenirs that sports fans can collect and cherish for the rest of their lives. Football being one of the most adored and popular sports, football autographs by celebrity footballers are certainly treated as treasures by avid football fans. But the question is how to get your hands on one of these football autographs or other autographed memorabilia? Well, there are many ways to do so and some of these means are discussed hereunder:

• First of all, look out for a trustworthy and authenticated source where you can buy any football autograph, or any kinds of football memorabilia for that matter. Then select a particular era in the history of football or your favorite player playing at any particular big game as this will be great help in defining your memorabilia collection.

• Carefully examine the authenticity of the autographs as many of them may not be original. Most of these football autographs or football souvenirs usually come with a certificate mentioning the authenticity of the signature of any footballer. So it is better to take notice of this particular point while you go to buy such memorabilia for your collection.

• Due to the recent boom in the sports memorabilia industry all these autographed collectibles can really be costly and you can get ripped off if you have not done your homework properly. Usually it is safer and cost effective to go for an authenticated auction site on the Internet where you can place your bids.

• Usually the price of the memorabilia depends on who the player is and how rare the item or autograph is. So just do a little research before you buy your souvenirs.

• Though the Internet can provide you with various options to avail autographs or any memoirs of your favorite footballer, always keep in mind that you buy stuff from an authentic online store to avoid getting fakes.

The Pyramid Of Sport – From Sex To Superconsciousness

November 26th, 2020

Man’s evolutionary physical, psycho/emotional, spiritual journey

Lies in the symbolism of our favorite sports

At the beginning – hunker down, bunker-down football

Through the winds of basketball

Into the waiting game of baseball

And the composure and agility of tennis

To the preservation of energy in golf

To the spirit itself

The big five American sports

Do you have the courage and stamina and insight to travel the path?

From sex to super consciousness

Perhaps it is valuable to have a deeper look at some of our favorite American sports, and the attitudes that support and bind them. We, as a people, give over so much of our psychological and financial energy to sustain them that sometimes a larger perspective can bring us the clarity
we need to see what is actually transpiring. Without being judgmental, but still looking at Sport with directness and understanding, it helps to go behind the obvious hoop-la of the spectacle, and attempt to seek out the higher spiritual truths, which seem at first glance to be concealed, but actually are right in front of our eyes. Even if there are those among us who have nothing whatsoever to do with sporting events – still you give their tacit support also. We all do. There is scarcely a product that you can purchase, nor an idea or attitude in the mass-market that is not somehow connected directly or indirectly to the promotion of sport – from clothing to electronics to food and drink and sex and cars – basically everything. You buy a soda. You contribute. You buy a Mazda. You contribute. All of us are contributors to Sport in one-way or another

So let us begin. If you will, picture a pyramid, and place at the base of the structure the great American sport – Football – the contact sport – the sexual sport. The roar of the male heard throughout the millennia. The quarterback takes the testicle- shaped ball from near the sexual organs of the Center, who is himself bent over clutching the ball. Oh yeah! The scantly clad, leggy cheerleaders bounce their pompoms, and cheer their boys. The males respond with loud guttural caveman-like sounds and thump their chests so the competition can begin. Lots of hands on contact, attack the left side, grunting and groaning, penetrating the line, grabbing the ball, hard tackles, bodies knocking together, throwing a pass, piling on, pats on the rump, wild emotional swings as the boys try to rise to the occasion and Score – badabing badabang badaboom. The booze flows; the crowd roars, the band blares.

Football is played on a rectangular shaped field called a gridiron, which if you looked at it vertically, resembles the bars in a jail – made to confine as well as define the limits of the game. It’s clock ticks off in four tough-nosed quarters. Hard time served. Not a kind, intimate, one on one strength- type sport; football is all male domination baby – rough and ready; battle hardened warriors; in your face mask, organized violence with penalties, testosterone Tarzans in uniforms. It’s physical, it’s loud, it’s arousing, it’s aggressive, It’s undaunted by violence or injuries. It’s the males’ primitive intelligence being displayed. It’s for the glory man, for the adulation and the raw emotion.

It represents the beginnings of the male sexual energy coming alive, and needing to be cheered on by the anonymous crowd and the allure of the dancing female. If you think not, try football without the raucous crowds, or better yet imagine it minus the cheerleaders. It many ways football is an extension of the unconscious male bonding process started in the adolescent years, and needs to be applauded and encouraged. Males bond with themselves first, before they are capable with connecting with the opposite sex. They have to. It is their way – the only way they know.

It’s called the sexual contact sport, because that is what it is. In the beginning there’s sex, at the end not so much. No need to be shy away from it. Just look directly at the symbolism behind the play. It represents the eternal dance of the males performing their bonding ritual to show off their stuff. Only in our time it is played out in the form of a massive physical and digital spectacle sport. Looked at another way it is also easy to see, if you follow the basic rules of engineering, that you need the substance of rock hard concrete to build a strong structure. You need that type of strength in the foundation. You need those guys roaring, and thumping, and pumping. It’s the base of the pyramid not the top. Strength is a must here. Not necessarily smarts. You need those guys on the line. It’s male psychology that’s all. The mythic King Kong attitude is required on the gridiron, even if it is caged or perhaps better put – only if it is caged. Society would not stand for that energy roaring about and knocking over any of it’s other carefully constructed institutions.

Football kicks off in September, and like sex itself, its mighty energy is spent in sixteen short, grunting games. Football – the active force; the beginning, but let’s not get stuck there, ’cause it’s not the end. The energy stirs into life at this completely American game placed squarely at the bottom of the sport pyramid. Positive traits: discipline, hard work – emphasis on hard as in hard muscles, and work, as in macho pumping iron man; team temperament – as in the support for your side of the turf with unflinching loyalty, confidence building – as in getting your ego stroked, as in strutting your mojo.

If football is fraught with stops and starts, setbacks, injuries, and spent energy, basketball is played in eighty plus games to a flow. It is stilled played in timed quarters – back and forth across the rectangle-shaped court, but in this game much of the skill is in not coming in contact with the other players. If played correctly it can be, and in fact is one of the most harmonious and rhythmic games of the five. Basketball is the wind sport. From the grunting and groaning of the lower body, to the breath of the lungs – the chamber that holds the heart, and pushes words through the throat center.

Here we leave the thrusting hips and legs of the football giants in favor of the more agile, sprint legs of the lighter dancers on the hardwood court. Jumping, passing, running, turning, shooting, the team choreographs itself to score. Then to defend – hands waving, eyes darting, blocking, quickness, aware. Instead of the hunker-down bunker-down mentality of football, more of an open intuitive finesse approach. The breath of life is not so much grunting, as it is refining itself, not so much yelling at the opponent as lungs working hard to catch the rhythm of the game. Wind endurance is key in this game. The concept of responsibility within a team is still very important. Cheerleaders -introduced only decades ago at the professional level – seem to be still needed at this stage – those legs, and lips and hips, and pompoms jumping and cheering. The energy of the heart and lungs is still connected to the lower emotional center. Oh these comforting adolescent props are still considered necessary, even on this plane. Positive traits: refinement of skills, speed plus agility, intuitively going with the flow.

As you ascend the pyramid the time restrictions as well as the rectangular shaped constrictions of the first two arenas give way to the welcome and open feeling of the diamond. The diamond is the connector between the lower and the upper – the brute strength of football, and the mental composure and agility of tennis. Baseball is the patient waiting game. Not so much grunting and wind of the other two – but more of that space between the breaths. That gap – that relaxed tension – the holding – the waiting – for the pitch, for the swing, for the crack of the bat. Then the hit – that explosion into life – movement – the ball dancing across the field – players moving in their positions – the mental and physical come together

Individual responsibility, important in all the sports, is even more accentuated at this level. Be with the team, but take your turn alone at the plate. It all counts in baseball: physical prowess, mental stability, silent communications, and individual accountability. Eye on the ball, sacrifice fly. Cheerleaders are no longer needed at this stage, minimal physical contact, not so much flowing wind as burst of life – hand signals instead of words. Gone is the wildness and spent energy of football. The baseball season last six months and over a hundred and sixty games. It is perhaps the most esoteric social sport. The singular goal after running away from home, and being stranded on the base pads with the opposite team (the enemy) all around, is to have enough skill and savvy, strength, determination, and insight, plus a little help from a friend and a strong dose of good fortune left to make your way back home. ‘Cause, baby, in this game no points are put on the board till you come home – America’s pastime – the connecting sport – Baseball.

From the many to the few – from the pounding strength of football, into the flowing breath of basketball, and through the waiting game of baseball – through all the lessons of the past, the obstacles and challenges; the tests needed to be given and learned, understood and overcome; from these many arms and legs working- out and flailing about; from the constant pressure to perform, from pomp and circumstance to just plain circumstance, from the glory and adulation comes the birth of the Two – Tennis.

Symbolically tennis represents the eternal yin and yang – the pair – the mythical Adam and Eve; the original split, the original coming together. To go this distance you can understand how much physical, psychological and spiritual effort it takes. You can’t run out of gas to get this far. The final goal is clearly within reach. If you haven’t blown it all on sex, booze and rock and roll, or on wild emotional roller coaster rides, or have not gotten lost in the din of mass media confusion – if you have successfully negotiated your way this far, and still have enough of your original sane energy left, then you have prepared well, because there is a big psychological shift here.

Why Fans Get Crazy in Watching Football

November 3rd, 2020

When it comes to sports, they are expecting that fans may cheer for their own individual or a team. Sports are one of the best things that an individual may participate because it will develop their physical ability and mental as well. Most of the children right now are being sent to any sport by their parents for them to have experience on what makes them to be a better athlete someday. Popular sports like football, basketball, billiards, lawn tennis, bowling, hockey and golf are already developed for years. Due to their popularity, more and more people are getting interested to join any sport they want, as long it is their favorite and with passion as well. Right now, football is one of the best sports that any person may witness. Unlike any other sports, football is the most exciting sport of all time.

Football fans from around the world are now getting crazy in watching football either on TV or at the stadium. One of the football leagues which the fans are addicted is the English Premier League (EPL). There are so many teams they can cheer on like the Manchester United, Real Madrid, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and a whole lot more. In a football stadium, when the seats are all occupied you may feel the exciting atmosphere of the football fans who were cheering for their team. The football stadium twice or thrice bigger than a basketball arena or a hockey stadium. It is one of the reasons why football right now is the most discussed sport of all time. Football fans were also updated about football like the English Premier League through listening to the radio, watch news about football and searching the internet. Speaking about the internet, there were also forum communities for football fans to discuss anything they want about football, and to keep other fans updated about it.

Right now there were hundreds of forums, blogs and groups about football that exists in the internet and still growing. The reason they built their football forums, blogs and websites are consist of two things. The first thing is what we call passion, which a blogger or website owner is to write something about football that makes them passionate. Because of passion, football fans who were accessing the internet are getting chances to check out the website or blog, and to subscribe and leave comments as well. The other reason why they built them is to make money from their ads displayed on their website or use keywords to link into a football shop site. No matter what the reason we are choosing, it may last long only with passion and quality. Its also one of the reasons why football fans go crazy. Not only they are crazy about watching football online, but also to get updated through blogs and forums they are subscribing. They can even answer polls, surveys and even play games that are related to football through search engines. When a football fan goes crazy, we must think that football is really something to them rather than any sport. It is their own passion to go crazy watching football, as well as to participate with some websites like soccer forums.

Help For Sports Dummies

October 16th, 2020

If you’re among the sports challenged, feeling left out – perhaps even dumb – when all that football, baseball, hockey, soccer, basketball, whatever seems to relentlessly dominate your TV screen, we’re about to help you meet the challenge.

Here’s the thing. Being a sports expert is like being an expert in anything else: it makes the expert feel smarter than the non-expert. So to keep one feeling smarter, one sometimes falls – albeit inadvertently – into the trap of making it seem that what one is smart about is simply too hard to explain to the less-smart.

To which we say: hoo-ha!

Sports are about as hard to understand as making ice cubes.

Sports jargon not withstanding.

We’re not talking nuance here, you understand. If you want to actually play the sport, or coach the sport, or write about the sport, it can get pretty darn complicated.

But to watch, understand and enjoy sports? Like we said: ice cubes.

Okay. Here’s the deal. With most team sports, what you see on the TV screen is a bunch of guys running around like a nudist colony besieged by killer bees, right? Your eyes glaze over. To you, it looks like a fast-forward video version of Where’s Waldo.

But it doesn’t have to be that way. Herewith, the Three Keys to Understanding What’s Going On. And yes: it works for any and all team sports.
1.) Concept. This is, as it were, the key key. To understand concept, you have to start at the end. What is the point of the exercise, the goal? For example, the concept of diet is weight loss. The concept of Wall Street is profit. The concept of sports is war. That’s right: all sports are actually mini-wars. There is your side and their side. Territory must be defended. And invaded. If you understand that you are watching a war, the comings and goings of the players begins to make a rough kind of sense.

2.) Scoring. Each sport has it’s own set of rules. They can get rather complicated. But not to worry: you don’t need to learn them. The real point is this: being a war, the idea is that one team is always trying to invade the territory of the other team. If they do so, they are awarded points. That is, they score. The other team is always trying to stop them, or to take their own turn at invading. Whoever invades successfully more often, i.e., scores the most points, wins the game.

[A neat aside here, by the way. In most team sports - football, soccer, basketball, hockey - the home territory is pretty obvious. Each team takes its turn at running (or throwing or kicking or slapping or bouncing) the ball or puck or whatever towards their opponent's territory at the opposite end of the field or court. But in baseball, they share the home territory. That's right: each team takes a turn at claiming mutual turf as their own, and they share, in turn, the same home plate as the territory (goal) to be invaded/defended. Rather sweet when you think about it, no?]
3.) Color. Now, what makes following all this so simple is that each member of any sports team wears their team’s colors. So all you have to do is see which color is moving toward the home territory/goal, and which team is trying to stop them. Since it’s more fun if you’re rooting for one of the teams, just pick a color. Cheer when they invade the other color’s territory. Boo when the other color invades theirs.

See? Isn’t that easy? Understand that you’re watching a war. Make note of where the territory/goal is for each side. Pick a color.

Pounding Bodies – What Makes Football a Great Sport

September 27th, 2020

I am not going to lie to you. I love baseball, and that is my favorite sport. Both for playing and for watching.

That being said, football does hold a special place in my life, and for me it is probably the next best, right after baseball.

Let’s explore what makes football a great sport, and what some of the benefits of playing football might be…

Length of Play: Football has a short and concise season of play. While other sports are lengthy and sometimes perhaps even too long, football is the opposite. Short and sweet. My theory in the “why” of this is that football is much harder on the body, physically, than other sports, and the human body just cannot handle that kind of pounding for too long, thus forcing the season to be short. And, every game counts all that much more because so few games are played. Over a long season, each individual game does not bear such great importance, yet in a short season, every game is instrumental.

Diversity of Position: While it is true that, in professional football, the offense and defense consist of different players, which is something I do not like, in amateur football, the kind we play in the schoolyard or at the local park, we all play all positions and both offense and defense.

Team Sport: Football is truly a team sport, similar to baseball. No one player can do it all. You have to rely on your teammates to pull their weight. No one player can rally the team (emotionally yes, but not actual play) and just take over – every player has to do his job. Just like you have to pull your weight, your teammate has to pull his weight. Or you will have no chance of even “being in the game”.

Chances of Winning: Any team can beat any other team on any given day. That old adage is true. On any given day, any team has an equal chance of winning. In other sports you play teams so many times that overall the better team is going to get the upper hand and overpower the other team, even if any one game can have unexpected results. In football, you play each team once, maybe twice – in any one game, each team has an equal chance to execute properly and play a great game. Football is the great equalizer.

Physical Play: To me this is the greatest reason why football is a great sport. The physical level of play. The crushing of bodies. The pounding. The tackling. The aggression. All guys on the field are going after each other on every play. There is no better adrenaline rush than the kind you get when pounding out a play in football.

The Violent Sport – Football, Ice Hockey Or MMA

September 2nd, 2020

So what’s with all the rhetoric and discussion on MMA being a violent sport? Have any of these detractors ever watched a football game? Ice Hockey? Rugby? Talk about violent sports! And these are all approved and sanctioned!

Senator McCain and a lot of politicians are on the anti-MMA bandwagon, although sources close to Senator McCain have told me personally that he’s “coming around” and is willing to take a closer look at the sport. Well thank goodness for that, because what MMA was in 1995 is not what it is today.

A report by the Journal of Sports Science & Medicine, (JOSS&M) stated: “The incidence of injury in combat sports has not been adequately reported although it is important to identify the nature and frequency of injuries prior to the implementation of prevention programs.”

In their study, they compared: “injury rates treated in Hospital Emergency Departments between different combat sports of boxing, wrestling, and martial arts. A secondary objective described anatomic region and diagnosis of these injuries. Data were obtained on all boxing, wrestling, and martial arts-related injuries that were in the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System database and resulted in Emergency Department visits between 2002 and 2005.”

Their findings? “Martial arts had lower injury rates compared to boxing and wrestling for all diagnoses (p

Their recommendation? Stop fighting? Ban MMA? Nope. In fact the report suggested that “Injury prevention efforts should consider the distribution of injuries and concentrate on preventing strains/sprains in wrestling, concussions in boxing and wrestling, and fractures for all three activities.” So basically, like with any other sport, one should take proper care and use preventative measures when training or competing. Okay – good to know.

Additionally, I think if an athlete is entering the ring to fight in a Mixed Martial Arts event, could we not assume that he pretty much knows what to expect and that s/he is physically fit and ready for the rigors of his sport? The JOSS&M report went further: “The findings of the present study do not provide evidence that combat sports have alarmingly high rates of injuries resulting in emergency department visits.”

Marketing, Promoting and Advertising Your Business

February 28th, 2020

One thing that goes without saying in today’s business world, is that regardless of the nature of your home based business, a website is an absolute MUST. Whether you have a product or service to sell, whether local or global, your business will go nowhere fast if you don’t have an online presence. If you need internet marketing help, you’ve landed on the right article. I’ll give you some home based business marketing ideas that will help you promote your business successfully.

The first step is choosing a domain name and getting it registered. You can build your own website (if you have the time) and host it yourself or you can have everything done by another company (if you have the money). Either way, you have many options and tools at your disposal that can align with your business plan and budget. Also note that you can still start your own home based business even if you don’t have a product or service to sell. There are thousands of individuals and companies that have products you can sell for them while earning a commission, called affiliate marketing.

Of the many business marketing strategies known to man, internet marketing is, hands down, the best strategy to use for promoting a home based business as it is the cheapest method and has the potential for reaching millions of people all over the globe. Driving traffic to your site through online resources is like killing two birds with one stone. You can tackle print advertising by writing articles and publishing them to directories and ezines and by submitting ads to the many available (and most of them free) classified ad sites. Online media advertising encompasses writing press releases and distributing them to press release sites. One of the biggest and most popular online advertising trends today is via social media advertising through sites such as Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn where you build relationships with your customers. Forums and communities are also great ways to build relationships which helps promote your home based business in the long run. Simply Google your market or industry with the word ‘forum’ or ‘community’ behind it and search for one or two that seem to be the best fit for you.

All of these methods of online advertising contribute to search engine optimization (SEO), which is to say improving your online visibility and escalating in the search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing. Your goal is to claim the #1 spot in the organic search results (the results on the left, not the right side which are paid ads). This is where your traffic will come from. If you are 800 in the list of search results, no one is ever going to see your site because very few people have the time or patience to scroll through 800 search results. Research shows that people typically won’t even scroll past 4 or 5 search results, let alone 800.

Can you grasp the importance of internet marketing for any business? If you are new to the internet marketing phenomenon and don’t know exactly where to start, there are many great programs or systems online that walk you through every aspect of marketing your online business. A lot of these systems were created by online entrepreneurs who have spent thousands of their own dollars trying to figure it all out over the years and finally DID. Their sacrifices have made it easier for newbies to become successful at their own online home based business. If you are new to running your own home based business, I recommend you find a great system (do your research, read reviews, ask questions in forums) and start marketing your home business from there. Don’t waste the time and money that so many of us have in going it alone, without a proven system, as it will just set you back further and hinder your progress.
